The Crouch and Slide Update
Hey, been working as much as I can on this, in terms of functionality the mechanics are all implemented and work as expected, however I did slouch on animations (just not been feeling it) but I did add some rudimentary animations to represent the states the player is in at the given moment.
So what is new exactly?
Crouching
- Replicated crouching.
- Basic forward and backward movement animations when crouching, and an idle pose too!
- Currently wired to work as toggle crouching by pressing
CTRL
, however hold to crouch is also implemented but not wired in as of yet.
Sliding
- Replicated physics based sliding.
- Super basic sliding pose setup.
- To slide, gain some momentum then press
CTRL + ALT
, this also is possible while crouching.
Fixes
- Fixed bullet counter not being populated correctly on weapon pickup.
Changes
- Updated air control parameters
- Players have better air control meaning they can strafe slightly while mid-air.
Backend work
Started incorporating unreal’s data assets, honestly really handy, still got a bit too learn though, getting this build to be stable and not crashing the game was a challenge.
Why does it matter?
- It makes setting attributes and cosmetic appearances super easy!
- Does help lay the foundation for doing future updates, game patches, hot-fixes (especially when on Steam or Epic).
- I do want to eventually officially support modding to allow community driven maps (Ambitious, I know, it’s mostly a later thing when everything else in place).
